crash – Touch ID goes away and comes back

  • by

Macbook Pro had lots of crashes.  Apple replaced logic board and touch sensor.  Touch ID stopped recognizing my finger—not surprising, but after a short time, with it still enabled in settings, it stopped offering me the option.

The weird part is that I didn’t do another finger scan, but the machine crashed again (while lid was closed but logged in with only Finder and TextEdit open). When it rebooted, it again offered touch ID and recognized my finger. But a week or two after, it again stopped offering touch ID.

Another crash, and touch ID is back upon restart. This has happened, not sure how many times.

Happened in Monterey. I think also in Big Sur but I don’t recall for sure. This morning’s incident was in Ventura 13.2.1

Any explanation?
